I design simple, compelling, and functional websites that make it easy for users to quickly find exactly what they’re looking for. My focus is on small business and solopreneurs, building websites that help create a strong community of raving fans. My goal is to help you change the way you think about the potential of the internet, and the potential of your business.
Oh, and if you’re wondering, I always emphasis social integration and design mobile first. It’s not just the way of the future. It’s the way of right now.
my five step design process
step one - research
The first step in this process starts with a thorough understanding of your business goals, your customers’ expectations and behavior, and how your website factors into all of it. I’ll send along a brief questionnaire that you can fill out to help provide me with the kind of information I will be looking for. I will also look at the competitive landscape to establish benchmarks for how your site should function and then improve on that. This stage will help give me the foundation for moving forward with just the right recommendations for the design and development of your new responsive website.
step two - design
Once I have an outline of your site needs, I’ll create a sample layout for 3-5 different page views and a complete map of what your new site will be structured like. These wireframes will show you layouts and ideas to work off, allowing us to experiment and iterate on how this content should appear across all devices. This will also detail the integration of your site with your social media presence, an important aspect in doing business in the 21st century.
After we have found the right look for all page layouts, I will create high-fidelity comps that show what your final design will look like, providing up to two rounds of revisions on the final design.
step three - development
Once we have the comps that you are in love with, I will build the site on your preferred platform, Wordpress, Wix, SquareSpace or another third party. A detailed review of the pros and cons of those three options is included in my proposal, and I am happy to review all three with you if you want some help deciding which platform to use. Please note that hosting is not included in my website service; I am a designer, not a hosting company, and you will need to pay for that service separately.
step four - testing
I test my work in current versions of major desktop browsers including those made by Apple (Safari), Google (Chrome), Microsoft (Internet Explorer), and Mozilla Firefox. I won’t test in other older browsers unless you specify otherwise. Testing popular small-screen devices is essential in ensuring that a person’s experience of a design is appropriate to the capabilities of the device they’re using. I test my work in the following: iOS: Safari; Android 4.1: Google Chrome, Firefox; Android 3.2: Browser, Firefox. I find these to be the most common and most relevant for a modern business.
step five - official launch
When your website passes all of my vigorous tests, and both of your revision sessions, we get to announce your launch! I will help you create an announcement marketing plan, helping with e-blast content, as well as social media post content (including images showcasing your new site) to help you get the word out.
FREQUENTLY ASKED WEBSITE QUESTIONS
WHAT IS YOUR TURNAROUND TIME? Every project I work on is different so turnaround time can vary. For most websites, my web design process takes an average of 4 weeks. My proposals include a detailed timeline showing what will happen when, and if you are in a hurry, we can discuss an expedited project for an additional fee.
WHEN ARE YOU AVAILABLE TO BEGIN? I have room to take on 3 additional clients this quarter. First come first serve so I recommend requesting your free proposal today!
WHAT DO YOU USE TO BUILD WEBSITES? I prefer to build your site with Squarespace and Wix. I can create you a Wordpress site if you prefer, but most of my clients are not comfortable with editing code for small changes, so I recommend using a more user-friendly program so you don't have to depend on my availability for minor edits.
WHAT IS THE WHOLE PROCESS LIKE? If you need a website, the first step is to request a proposal on my fancy schmancy form right here. Based on your questions, I will draft up a proposal including budget and timeline. If you need changes to the proposal, I will work with you to have a contract we can both agree upon. Once your proposal and contract is signed, I require a 50% deposit and will being work as soon as payment is received. Additional payments will be associated with milestones, or the completed site if the site you need is on the smaller side.
WHAT ABOUT MY URL AND HOSTING? I am a site designer, not a hosting company, and I do not offer any hosting services. It is your responsibility to pay for hosting and your URL, but many of the platforms I like to build on offer great options to make it easy for you to do so. If you already own a URL that you want to use, I will work with you to transfer your new site to it, for no additional fee.
I NEED A BLOG/STORE/SCHEDULING SYSTEM; CAN YOU DO THAT? Absolutely! Include all of your needs when you submit your website request and I will be sure to include them in your proposal.
DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT PLANS? Yes. I do require a 50% deposit, but you are welcome to make monthly installment payments of $300 until your invoice is paid. Please note that I do charge a 3% maintenance fee for all payments after 30 days.
I NEED A WEBSITE YESTERDAY. CAN YOU EXPEDITE THE PROCESS? For the right project, I am happy to kick it up a notch. This will require more coffee, so I will charge an additional fee based on our new time line. Mention this need in your website request and we will work out the details.
LET'S GET REAL ABOUT MY BUDGET. HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE? Every business is different and so is every website, so I cant tell you how much your project will cost without knowing more about it. My basic websites start at USD $850 for a simple 3 page setup, and increase in price from there. Additional needs like blogs, online stores, and complicated membership sites or larger corporate sites will cost more than a mom and pop yoga shop. A complete breakdown of the cost of your site will be included in your proposal and I am happy to work on a scale that reflects your budget. I do offer a discounted rate for non-profits; please contact me directly with your needs and we will see if there is a solution that can work for the both of us.
